Operations management is probably the most vulnerable aspect of industry and economic change. Corporations are faced with numerous economic, environmental, and social trends and issues that directly affect how companies perform their day-to-day business activities.
Companies must embrace and conform to the certainty of change, and, at the same time, predict how their business needs to adapt in the long term to sustain growth and competitiveness. Within the past year, there have been great shifts toward outsourcing work to other countries as companies expand internationally. In addition, operations management must respond to changes in consumer purchasing power, public scrutiny and suspicion of big business, strain on natural resources, the ubiquitous access to information, and the evolving regulatory environment. All these changes have operations managers focusing their attention on strategies that will advantageously position their organizations in order to remain ahead of the game. As a result, the demand for qualified operations managers who are able to successfully lead new initiatives to deal with adverse changes and seize upon significant opportunities has dramatically increased. These qualified managers have the technical and managerial skills obtained through experience, augmented by a high quality graduate degree.
The New England College Master of Science in Management/Operations Management (MSOM) online program is designed to provide operations executives with the skills needed to juggle changes in the corporate environment, the international marketplace, and their own market niche, to promote growth and profitability. The MSOM program teaches professionals how to excel in operations management with an emphasis on practical leadership skills that take operations professionals beyond the theoretical approach usually found in generic business degree programs.
