Message from the Dean
Real estate is one of the most volatile, yet lucrative, industries in the American economy. The industry has witnessed great highs and lows and is always sensitive to changes in other vital sectors. Economic, social, legal, and environmental factors all affect the real estate market. For instance, as more consumers rely on the Internet for information, they are better equipped to make financial investment decisions, which ultimately affect interest rates and mortgages. In addition, living in an environmentally conscious era, consumers are looking to "greener" housing options, such as residential/commercial areas closer to transit options. Also, making use of new technology, realtors and customers alike have new interactive ways to search for housing, determining what features and amenities are in the vicinity of the property, and other information that could lead to the sales close.
It is obvious that the real estate market is not isolated from the changes in the "bigger picture." It is now the realtor's job to be aware of these matters and position themselves accordingly. As a result, the demand for qualified managers who are able lead their firms through these changes has dramatically increased. These managers must have the technical and leadership skills obtained through experience, and rise above the rest when that experience is augmented by a high quality graduate degree.
The New England College Master of Science in Management/Real Estate Management (MSRE) online program is designed to assist realtors in gaining the management skills to embrace and capitalize on changes in the industry. The MSRE program teaches professionals how to excel in this volatile arena, with an emphasis on practical leadership skills rather than the theoretical processes and procedures that real estate professionals are so accustomed to seeing in certificate programs or generic business degrees.
